A Grizzly Bear May Be Killed After Mauling A Hiker To Death At Yellowstone

Many people are angry after Yellowstone National Park officials said they will kill the female bear if it’s determined to be behind the fatal attack.

Officials at Yellowstone National Park say they have caught a bear they believe mauled a man to death in the park.

The victim, whose name has not been released, worked for Medcor, a company that operates urgent care facilities inside the park.

The man, who the park described as an "experienced hiker," was from Montana and had worked in the area for several seasons as a seasonal employee. He was reported missing Friday after he missed work.

Searchers found his body off a trail, and there were what appeared to be defensive wounds on his arms.

The National Park Service previously said that if officials caught a bear that was confirmed to be responsible for the death, the animal would be euthanized.

A park spokesperson told the Associated Press on Monday that the adult female bear was caught in a trap, but her cubs were not with her. The park had previously said it believed a mother and her cubs were involved in the attack.

The park said the bear is being tested to determine if it was the attacker.

In parts of the United States, including Wyoming, the grizzly bear is listed as a threatened species.

After the park announced it intended to euthanize the bear responsible, it was inundated with angry responses on social media.
