Police In Missouri Reportedly Shot And Killed An Unarmed Teenager Saturday

Witnesses said the Ferguson, Missouri, teen was unarmed and had his hands up. The NAACP slammed the shooting, saying the boy was “slaughtered by law enforcement.”

The teenager was identified by police and several hashtags as Mike Brown. The shooting happened about 2:15 p.m. on a neighborhood street about 12 miles from downtown St. Louis.

Witnesses also told Fox 2 News that Brown and a friend had been walking in the middle of the street before the shooting.

Police in St. Louis County did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed's request for comment. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, Fox 2 reports. A police spokesperson told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch that there would be a "lengthy investigation."

Brown had graduated from Normandy High School this year and was scheduled to begin college on Monday, the Post-Dispatch reports.

A picture posted to Twitter purported to show Brown's body lying in the street.
