Surveillance footage along the marathon route played in court Monday – and never seen before – showed Dzhokhar Tsarnaev leaving a spot right before a bomb detonated.
A federal jury on Monday saw video placing Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, along the Boston Marathon route as bombs ripped through the crowd. Dzhokhar is on trial for 30 charges, including killing four people and injuring hundreds.
The video is a compilation of surveillance footage along the route.
The most harrowing moments – and perhaps the most useful for prosecutors – begins around 3 minutes and 30 seconds, when Dzhokhar arrives outside the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street. A security camera there recorded the footage.
He stands there for several minutes, and at one point appears to place a phone call. When the first bomb seemingly detonates off-camera – the entire crowd suddenly looks left – Dzhokhar begins quickly walking away. Seconds later an explosion goes off right in front of the camera.
