Two Los Angeles police officers were charged Wednesday with repeatedly sexually assaulting four women, most of the time while they were on duty.

James Nichols and Luis Valenzuela were charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, including forcible rape, rape under color of authority, oral copulation under color of authority, and oral copulation by force. Valenzuela is also charged with one count of assault with a firearm for allegedly pointing a gun at one of the victims, Los Angeles County prosecutors said.

At the time of the alleged assaults, which began in 2008, the women were 19, 24, 25 and 34 years of age. Most, but not all, of the alleged sexual assaults occurred while the officers were on duty.

The pair, who were partners in the Los Angeles Police Department, were expected to be arraigned Thursday. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said they would be seeking about $3.8 million bail for both men.

Nichols and Valenzuela's employment status with the LAPD was unknown.
