Senator Ted Cruz ended his presidential campaign Tuesday after Donald Trump's major victory in Indiana's primary.
Cruz emerged from an initially crowded Republican field as the main contender against Trump. He ran to the right of the businessman, saying he was the true conservative in the race and that Trump was masquerading as a Republican.
Indiana marks the seventh consecutive primary Cruz lost to Trump. Trump's victory means he has a clear path to the 1,237 delegates he needs to clinch the nomination.
The day started off troubling for Cruz as Trump repeated a dubious National Enquirer story that claimed Cruz's father may have had something to do with the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Cruz went on to call Cruz "amoral" and a "pathological liar."
Just last week the Texas senator picked former candidate Carly Fiorina as his running mate, in an effort to build momentum for his campaign.
