The suspect has been identified by authorities as 32-year-old Minguell Kennedy Lembrick, according to the Americus Police Department.
The two officers, who have not yet been identified, were responding to a "domestic disturbance" call to an apartment complex near the Georgia Southwestern State University this morning when they were shot, Police Chief Mark Scott said at a press conference.
The deceased officer belonged to the city's police department, while the critically wounded officer, who arrived to the scene as backup, belongs to the campus police department.
The Georgia Southwestern State University campus remains on lockdown since the morning shooting.
A Facebook profile that appears to belong to Lembrick has posted twice since the deadly shooting.
One post, soon after the incident, simply states "Love yall." In a short video posted to the page, a silhouetted figure says, "Man I'm gonna miss y'all folk, man." The video later disappear from Lembrick's timeline.
