Two Ohio Police Officers Have Been Killed In The Line Of Duty

The incident happened in the northeastern Columbus suburb of Westerville.

Two police officers were killed on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, authorities said.

Officials in Westerville initially said they were investigating an officer-involved shooting. They then announced one officer had been killed in the line of duty, but subsequently added that a second officer had also died.

"It is with a heavy heart we report a second Westerville officer has been killed in the line of duty," city officials wrote on Twitter. "We will share more details here as it becomes available."

According to local station 10TV, the officers were responding to a hang-up call around 11:30 a.m. ET when they were fired upon.

Westerville is a northeastern suburb of Columbus and is home to Gov. John Kasich.
