Pennsylvania Trooper Rob Hicks confirmed to Buzzfed News that Frein, 31, was captured Tuesday. Hicks did not immediately have additional details.

Officials spent almost seven weeks searching for Frein, who allegedly killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson and injured another state trooper when he ambushed a police barracks on Sept. 12 during a late-night shift change.

The search led police to Pennsylvania's Poconos Mountain, where they found two pipe bombs that could be set up to trigger if tripped by a wire.
