Cruise Ship Runs Aground Off Bermuda

Norwegian Cruise Line said its ship lost power and hit a channel bed Tuesday after leaving a port in Bermuda, stranding passengers for more than three hours.

Passengers on board Norwegian Dawn tweeted pictures of the ship stalled in the water, and said crew members told them they would not be moving "for a while."

In a statement, Norwegian Cruise Line said the ship temporarily lost power when it departed from King's Wharf in Bermuda.

"The ship's propulsion was affected and, at which time, the vessel made contact with the channel bed," the company said. "All guests and crew are safe."

The ship lost power at about 5 p.m. local time, Vanessa Picariello, senior director of public relations for Norwegian Cruise Line, told BuzzFeed News.

It was not immediately clear how many passengers are on board.

According to Norwegian Cruise Line, the ship was built in 2002 and has a capacity of more than 2,300 guests and a crew of more than 1,000.

By about 8 p.m., passengers continued to state on Twitter that the ship remained motionless.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the ship currently has full power and services on board will continue as scheduled.
