A man arrested in Santa Monica, California, with an assault rifle and ammunition, as well as possible explosives, told police he was in the area for the L.A. Gay Pride festival, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Santa Monica police arrested the man after responding to a report of a suspected prowler. When officers spoke with the man, he told them he was waiting for a friend.
The officers then inspected his car and found several weapons, ammunition, as well as tannerite, which can be used to create a pipe bomb.
Authorities told the L.A. Times that the car had Indiana plates and the suspect made comments that he was in town for the pride event in West Hollywood, California.
The source told them they didn’t know of any connection between what happened in Orlando, Florida, and that the investigation had been taken over by the FBI.
