Several people were injured Saturday evening in an explosion on 23rd Street in Manhattan, the NYPD said.
Officials said the explosion occurred near 23rd Street and 6th Avenue at 8:30 p.m.
The NYPD's Counterterrorism unit also responded to the scene, officials said.
People near the area reported hearing the loud explosion, some saying they heard the loud bang blocks away from its source.
The loud bang was reported hours after an explosion occurred in Seaside Park, New Jersey, where a charity race was expected to pass through.
Because of an unexpected delay, however, officials said there were no people near the explosion of a trash can and no injuries were reported.
