Three people died and five others were sickened after eating a Thanksgiving dinner served by a church in California, officials say.
The Thanksgiving meal was served at the American Legion Hall in Antioch and hosted by Golden Hills Community Church for seniors, homeless, and others who might have otherwise been alone for the holiday, KTVU reported.
Sutter Delta hospital treated eight people on Friday and Saturday who fell sick after the meal, probably from a food borne illness, according to KTVU. Three of the patients died, four others were released, and one remains hospitalized.
All of the victims lived together, NBC News Bay Area reported.
Contra Costa Public Health officials are investigating and said there is no risk to the general public.
BuzzFeed News contacted Sutter Delta Hospital and Contra Costa Health for additional information, but did not immediately receive a response.
