Leonard Cohen, the heavily influential singer-songwriter who first rose to fame in the 1960s, has died at age 82. The news was confirmed via the musician's Facebook page.
"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries," the post read. "A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief."
The cause of death is yet unknown.
Cohen just released his latest album You Want It Darker three weeks ago, on Oct. 21. It was the 14th studio set for the 2010 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. In addition to his many live albums, singles, and compilations, the LA-based artist and writer released novels and several collections of poetry in his lifetime.
