The Secretary of State travelled to Baghdad to congratulate new Prime Minister.
Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Baghdad early Wednesday morning to meet the Iraq's new government, upon whom the U.S. is basing much of its strategy to defeat Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants, the Washington Post reported.
The visit is timed to coincide with President Obama's speech later today, in which he will lay out the United States' strategy to counter ISIS.
Kerry will meet senior officials, including new Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, who edged out predecessor Nouri Al-Maliki following pressure from the U.S. last month.
