The humpback whale was found Tuesday morning, not far from where a large sperm whale was found about three weeks earlier.

The beached whale is the second to die and wash ashore in the area in three weeks, according to the Associated Press.
In April, a sperm whale washed ashore at Mori Point. Biologists determined the whale had been injured, but were unable to determine how it died. In January, a pygmy sperm died after beaching itself in Marin County.
There was no indication the deaths were connected.
Biologists returned to the coast Tuesday to try to examine the carcass of the humpback whale found Tuesday morning, Laura Sherr, spokeswoman for the Marine Mammal Center, told the AP.

Examining the whale carcass may be difficult because it was still in the shallow surf, Sherr added.
