More Than 2,000 Piglets On The Loose In Ohio After Truck Crashes

When pigs fly.

A semitrailer carrying 2,200 piglets overturned Monday on a freeway in Ohio, forcing road closures as officials attempted to corral the animals.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. local time Monday on U.S. Route 35 near Xenia, WCPO reported.

Police said the driver of the truck lost control and veered into a guardrail. The driver was unharmed, but the only passenger was injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

About 200 young pigs were also killed in the crash, the Xenia Fire chief estimated, according to the Dayton Daily.

WDTN reported a couple hundred piglets were still on the loose in the forested area surrounding the highway.

Deputies with Greene County, police from Xenia and Wilberforce, Parks and Recreation officers, local firefighters and volunteers were all working together to find the animals.

The driver, meanwhile, will be cited for failure to control a motor vehicle, police added.
