Shooting Erupts In Downtown Charleston, South Carolina

Police confirmed the shooting happened about 9 p.m. on Calhoun Street, but there was no official word on possible injuries.

A shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, prompted a major police response Wednesday night.

The shooting reportedly happened around 9 p.m. Nearly an hour later, police tweeted that they were still looking for a suspect.

Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said the suspect in the shooting is a white man who is about 21 years old. Francis said the man was wearing a grey sweatshirt, possibly a hoodie, and jeans, and was clean shaven.

It was not immediately clear how many people, if any, had been injured in the shooting, though a journalist at the scene reported seeing at least one person transported for medical attention.
