Taylor Swift filed a counterclaim Wednesday against a former Denver radio DJ for assault and battery over his alleged actions at a meet and greet before a concert in June 2013.
Swift brought the claim after DJ David "Jackson" Mueller sued the singer, claiming he was unjustly fired from his job at KYGO radio after being wrongfully accused of assault.
“Ms. Swift knows exactly who committed the assault — it was Mueller,” according to Swift’s filing. Swift filed the lawsuit to “serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.”
She plans on donating any money recovered in the case to charitable organizations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard, according to the complaint.
Swift said it was during the photo op prior to her concert when Mueller “intentionally reached under her skirt, and groped with his hand an intimate part of her body in an inappropriate matter, against her will, and without her permission,” the suit states.
Swift was surprised, upset, offended and alarmed by Mueller’s actions, according to the complaint. Even though she has performed at thousands of events since she was 16, Swift said she had never been inappropriately groped before.
Immediately after the incident, Swift notified her tour manager and security about Mueller’s actions and then went on to perform a concert in front of 13,000 fans.
Swift is seeking damages and costs. She is also demanding a jury trial.
