The margin impacts the distribution of delegates — the people who actually go to the convention and vote for the nominee — each candidate gets.
In the Republican primary, if a candidate gets over 50% of the vote, he will win all 95 delegates. If not they are divvied up, which Ted Cruz and John Kasich are hoping will happen.
For the Democrats the 291 delegates are divvied up proportional to the results. Bernie Sanders is hoping to finish strong and limit Clinton's delegate haul.
