Four People Shot Near Southern California Polling Place

CBS Los Angeles / Via losangeles.cbslocal.com

At least one person was killed and three others were taken to a hospital after a shooting Tuesday afternoon outside of Los Angeles, CBS Los Angeles reported.

Officers came under fire as they responded to the shooting in a neighborhood of Azusa, a suburb northeast of Los Angeles. The shooting took place near homes, schools, and polling places, but there was no immediate indication it involved the election.

Azusa police told residents in the area to shelter in place, and two schools went into lockdown. Two polling places also went into lockdown, and local election officials told voters to cast their ballots at other locations.

The gunman was described as heavily armed, and he remained at large Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reported.
