LOS ANGELES – A transient who plowed through a crowd on the Venice Beach boardwalk in California, killing an Italian honeymooner, was convicted of second-degree murder Friday.
Prosecutors argued Nathan Campbell, 38, was upset about an earlier drug deal when he drove a sedan through a crowd in the popular beach.
Among the victims of the Aug. 2013 incident was Alice Gruppioni, who was on her honeymoon when she was run over.
Seventeen others were injured in the crash, which was captured on video from several angles.
Security cameras captured shoppers and vendors diving out of the way as the sedan swerved through the crowd.
According to prosecutors, Campbell drove his 2008 Dodge Avenger on Sunset Boulevard and continued to drive after hitting 17 people and killing Gruppioni.
He turned himself in to police two hours after the incident.
