A woman suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night when a broken baseball bat struck her in the head during an A's-Red Sox game at Boston's Fenway Park.
The incident occurred during the second inning when A's third baseman Brett Lawrie hit a pitch. Lawrie's bat broke in half and a large piece flew into the stands, where it struck the woman.
The woman was seated in the second row along the third base line, Boston police spokesperson Rachel McGuire told BuzzFeed News. McGuire described her injuries as "life threatening." Police have not released the woman's name.
A security guard told The Boston Globe the woman had been hit in the face. Witness Arvald Karp told the Globe the woman looked like she was "in shock."
The game was temporarily stopped after the bat hit the woman as she was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, McGuire said. A hospital spokesperson told BuzzFeed News she did not immediately have information about the woman.
