Authorities are searching for a suspect after one person was killed and five others injured in a shooting at a Zombie-themed gathering in Florida on Saturday, police said.
Around 11:45 p.m. police received a call of shots fired at the Zombicon event in downtown Fort Myers, which had drawn more than 20,000 people, police spokesman Lt. Victor Medico told reporters.
"As you can imagine with that many people, there were people taking cover and officers running towards the shots," he said. "That's when we located the victims."
Although police at the event responded immediately, one person was fatally shot and four others had to be transported to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Medico said.
A sixth person was wounded by a bullet but refused medical treatment, he told News-Press on Sunday.
The newspaper reported authorities had named the victim as Expavious Tyrell Taylor, 20.
NBC-2 reported Taylor was from Okeechobee, Florida, and played football for Miami's ASA college.
Police were still looking for the gunman Sunday and had appealed to witnesses to come forward.
Zombicon organizers wrote on Facebook that they were "deeply saddened" by the shooting.
"We take the safety of our patrons very seriously and take precautions in hiring security and police officers for our annual event," the organizers said. "Our prayers go out to the family members and individuals involved in the incident."
