A Jewish teacher was attacked in the French city of Marseille Wednesday night by three men, officials said, one of whom reportedly "exhibited" an ISIS symbol.
The attack occurred in the 13th arrondissement of Marseille, a port city in the south of France, CNN reported.
The teacher at a Jewish school was stabbed several times in his arms, stomach, and legs during the attack, according to CNN.
The three men were reportedly rode up two scooters.
According to a Reuters article in French, one of the assailants was described as having "exhibited" a T-shirt with an ISIS logo on it. The Marseille prosecutor told news outlets that one of the attackers also showed the teacher a picture of Mohamed Merah, a 23-year-old who killed seven people in multiple shootings in the cities of Motauban and Toulouse in 2012.
"The three individuals insulted, threatened, and stabbed the victim in the arm and leg," prosecutor Brice Robin told Reuters. However, "they were disturbed by the arrival of a car and fled."
The teacher is expected to survive. Local news outlets reported police were continuing to search for the attackers.
Marseille is more than 460 miles south of Paris, where the terrorist attacks on Friday that killed 129 people and put the entire nation on a heightened sense of alert. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the coordinated attack.
Early Wednesday, French police also conducted a raid in Saint-Denis, firing more than 5,000 rounds.
