Sources told HawaiiNewsNow that the 19-year-old went out onto the ledge during the party, and threatened to jump to end his life.

The second man, a 24-year-old, was trying to stop him from jumping by pulling him off the ledge, the Associated Press reported.

Both men went over the ledge and tumbled 14 stories. They were both taken to the hospital, but the older man died. The younger man is in critical condition, according to the AP.

Neither of the men were students at the school, spokesman Dan Meisenzahl told the AP.

He said that the two men were guests of a student who lived in the dorm.

"It's a terrible tragedy — the last thing we want to happen ... whether they are students or not," he said. "Of course, our condolences go out to their friends and family."

The school did not return a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
