Curtis Smith was shot after pulling out a knife and slashing at a sheriff’s deputy, authorities said. He previously was arrested in March for climbing over a wall on the grounds of the White House.
A man who scaled a wall at the White House earlier this year was shot and killed Tuesday in Pennsylvania after attacking a sheriff's deputy.
Curtis Smith, 34, arrived at the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester and charged past a metal detector late Tuesday morning, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan told reporters. Once through the metal detector, Smith pulled out a knife and started slashing at a sheriff's deputy, Hogan said.
Another deputy then shot Smith, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. Smith was from Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
The deputy suffered cuts to his hand and arm, Hogan said. He was treated at an area hospital, and investigators Tuesday were interviewing the deputy who opened fire.
