The planes collided around 11 a.m. Sunday as they were headed to Brown Field Municipal Airport in San Diego.
Four people were killed and another injured Sunday after two planes collided in Southern California, NBC San Diego reported.
The midair crash took place two miles northeast of Brown Field Municipal Airport in San Diego, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.
The twin-engine Sabreliner and a single-engine Cessna 172 were preparing to land at the airport when the crash occurred.
Fire authorities told the Associated Press four people who had been onboard the planes had died, and another was taken to a hospital with injuries.
The crash also sparked a small brush fire, which the San Diego Fire Department extinguished.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
