Man Shot And Killed Outside Of Mississippi Courthouse

The victim had a scheduled court appearance Monday relating to a previous arrest for multiple drug charges, officials said.

According to Tucker, the victim was waiting outside of the courthouse with his lawyer when the suspect pulled up to the location in a car.

The suspect then got out of his vehicle and fired one shot at the victim's chest, killing him. When he was approached by officers stationed at the courthouse, the suspect immediately surrendered his weapon and was arrested peacefully.

Tucker did not identify the victim, but the man was identified by The Clarion-Ledger as Kendrick Brown. Tucker said he believes Brown was in his 30s.

Guest described the victim as a "habitual offender" who was facing extensive jail time in his latest case.

"The victim in this case had quite a lengthy list of offenses," he said, adding that he did not believe the victim had ever been convicted of a violent crime.

Guest said that the victim was not cooperating with his office or authorities, and hadn't said anything about feeling threatened over the case.

Tucker praised the actions of the officers who quickly helped to diffuse the situation, saying he was thankful the shooting was contained so quickly.

"It could have been a more extended tragedy if it was inside the courthouse," he said.
