A Phoenix man was booked into jail Saturday after police said he decapitated his wife and two dogs, and mutilated himself last month.

Kenneth Dale Wakefield, 43, was held in lieu of $2-million bond on suspicion of murder and animal cruelty.
According to police, a neighbor called 911 the morning of July 25 after checking on Wakefield and his wife, Trina Heisch. The neighbor said both of them had mental health problems.
Wakefield answered the door naked, with his eye gouged out and a portion of his arm cut off, the neighbor told police, adding that there was a large amount of blood visible inside the apartment.
Wakefield again answered the door when officers arrived, his left forearm was severed, and cuts on his chest. He allegedly told police he had killed three family members.
Inside, officers found Heish and two small dogs decapitated inside a bedroom closet. Wakefield was taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and other treatment.
Investigators checked on other family members as a precaution, but no one else was harmed. They also learned that both Wakefield and Heisch had a history of mental illness, domestic violence, and drug use, police said. The pair were married after they met in a mental health facility.
According to police, Wakefield was arrested in 2003 on suspicion of attempting to kill another family member. Heisch had been arrested in March on suspicion of trying to stab Wakefield.
