On July 3, 2011, Memphis police officer Timothy Warren was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance.

Determined to remedy this for her daughter, Officer Warren's widow Betsy approached Donna Kirk, founder of the Our Fallen Heroes Foundation, and Taylor Amen, the wife of a Memphis police officer, for help.
The organization, which provides support to families of firefighters and police who have died in the line of duty, reached out to help Jewel.
On the day of the dance, six uniformed officers arrived to accompany Jewel to her dance.
Kirk told Yahoo Parenting the response from officers wanting to participate was overwhelming.
"There were many more officers who wanted to be a part of the event, but the space was limited. We have been told there will be a waiting list for the next event!"
