Lindsay Lohan did her community service in the morgue. Paris Hilton — in 4-inch black patent pumps — painted over graffiti with the Hollywood Beautification Team. Winona Ryder ministered to sick children at the City of Hope medical center. And now, Kayne West joins the illustrious group of celebrities who have completed their community service.
But instead of spending his mandated community service sweeping floors or moving boxes, West conducted lectures and mentored students at a fashion college.
West was sentenced to 240 hours of community service after pleading no contest to battery following an altercation with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport in 2013. According to the letter of completion submitted to Los Angeles County Superior Court by the dean of the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, West gets an A+ for his work with students at the school.
Dean Joseph Guerrieri said having West at his school mentoring and lecturing the budding fashion designers was "of great benefit to our students an our program."
"Having personally observed some of the work Mr. West is doing with this program, including academic lectures to our student body, as well as mentoring projects he has undertaken with 12 of our students, I commend Mr. West for the work and contribution to our program,” Guerrieri wrote in his letter to the court.
“West,” Guerrieri added, spent "far more personal time already than the total 240 hours required."
Superior Court Commissioner Alan Rubin agreed Tuesday, concluding that West — who was not in court for the hearing — had completed his community service requirements. For his part, West was back East presenting Yeezy fashion expertise at New York Fashion Week.
