Former Scandal actor Columbus Short on Thursday was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading not contest to knocking a man out at a West Los Angeles restaurant last year.
Short had been charged with one felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury. In addition to probation, Superior Court Judge Leslie Brown sentenced Short to 60 days of community labor and ordered him to complete 26 anger management classes, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Short had been facing a possible four years in state prison.
A hearing will be scheduled for a later date on possible restitution to the victim.
Short, 33, appeared in the hit ABC show Scandal for three seasons as Harrison Wright, one of Kerry Washington's loyal "Gladiators." He was last seen with a gun to his head on the Season 3 finale.
After reports surfaced of Short threatening his wife Tanee during a heated argument in April 2014, his contract option for the show was not picked up. Tanee also filed for divorce and a restraining order against him the following week.
His sentence on Thursday was handed down on the same day of the show's Season 5 premiere.
After appearing at his court hearing, Short wished his former castmates well on Twitter.
The assault case is the latest in a series of legal problems for Short. He was arrested in August at his album release party in Los Angeles over a reported dispute with his bail bondsman.
And in July, Short was arrested in Dallas on suspicion of public intoxication at a restaurant with a "beer garden."
A representative for Short did return a request for comment Thursday.
