Caitlyn Jenner is now legally a woman after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Friday signed off on her request to change her name and registered gender.
Jenner filed a petition to officially change her name Sept. 15. With the judge's sign off Friday, William Bruce Jenner is now legally Caitlyn Marie Jenner, according to court records.
Jenner was not present at the brief hearing when the judge granted the request.
The Olympic gold medalist publicly debuted as transgender little more than two months ago. As part of the paperwork filed in court, Jenner can also ask the court to order a new birth certificate be issued reflecting the changes made on Friday.
Jenner — who made her big debut on the cover of Vanity Fair in June — pledged during her appearance at ESPN’s annual ESPY Awards a month later to use her fame to advocate for greater acceptance of trans people.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office has not rendered its decision on whether Jenner will be charged for her role in a deadly crash in Malibu on Feb. 7.
The crash occurred on Pacific Coast Highway when a Toyota Prius stopped or slowed and was rear-ended by a Lexus. Jenner’s Cadillac Escalade then hit the back of the Lexus, killing the driver, 69-year-old Kim Howe.
