A small plane that was being used for an upcoming Tom Cruise film crashed in Colombia Friday, killing two.
The crash killed American Alan Purwin and Columbia Carlos Berl, the Associated Press reported. Both men were working on the upcoming movie, titled Mena, which explores the life of an American pilot who worked for a Columbian drug lord.
The film stars Cruise and is directed by Doug Liman. Shooting has been going on in Columbia since late August, Variety reported, but neither Cruise nor Liman were on the plane that crashed.
According to the Associated Press, the plane was a twin-engine Aerostar that went down in bad weather while en route from the town of Santa Fe de Antioquila to Medellin. In addition to killing two people, the crash also reportedly injured American pilot Jimmy Lee Garland, who was rushed to a hospital in Medellin.
Representatives for Cruise and Purwin did not immediately comment to the Associated Press on Friday.
Purwin was the president of Helinet Technologies, a company that, according to its website, specializes in "customized surveillance solutions."
According to the site, Purwin had been flying planes since he was a teenager, and by the mid 1980s was doing aerial stunts for films and movies.
