Texas officials released autopsy results for Sandra Bland on Thursday.

Waller County sheriff officials said they believe Bland died in her cell the morning of July 13, from asphyxiation with a trash bag, three days after she was pulled over for not using her turn signal and then arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer.

The death has been ruled a suicide by hanging.

"There has been a confirmation" of preliminary tests determining there was marijuana in her system at the time of her arrest, Waller County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam.

Diepraam said that there were no injures on Bland's hands or head that would indicate a homicide or struggle.

There was "no evidence whatsoever of injuries on her hands."

Her head "was free of any other injuries" in regards to a ligature mark around her neck.

There were also superficial abrasions -- called scabs -- from her shoulder bone to spine that were in a "state of healing," he said. "Those marks do not reveal who placed them."

This could be consistent with a "knee in the back or struggle." A portion of a leaf was found inside a scab.

On her left arm were about 30 "cut marks" on her left wrist in a state of scarring and scabbing – essentially a place of healing. They were placed about 2 to 4 weeks before she was jailed. "they are not indicative of recent inflictions," Diepraam said.
