Reports: At Least One U.S. Service Member Killed During Hostage Rescue Mission In Iraq

U.S. special operations troops suffered injuries during a mission to rescue ISIS hostages in Iraq overnight, CNN and NBC News reported.

Sources told both media outlets that U.S. forces were attempting to rescue Kurdish fighters who were being held by the extremist group.

The extent of the injuries to U.S. troops is unclear but reports indicated that there was at least one American service member was killed during the rescue attempt.

Seventy hostages were rescued during the operation which was requested by the Iraqi government, CNN reported, but authorities did not confirm details of the mission.

A Department of Defense spokesperson told BuzzFeed News, "We have nothing for you."
