Three U.S. soldiers were killed and six others missing Thursday after their vehicle overturned while crossing a flooded Texas creek.

The soldiers, from Fort Hood, Texas, were crossing Owl Creek when their Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned, according to a statement from the U.S. Army. The soldiers' bodies were recovered downstream, the statement adds.

Six soldiers were still missing late Thursday afternoon, while three others had been rescued. The rescued soldiers were in stable condition, according to the army statement.

Texas has been battered in recent days by intense rains and flooding.

The Army said the Light Medium Tactical Vehicle had become stuck while responding to a swift-water rescue call near Cold Springs and Owl Creek.
