A small blast in Central Park in New York City severed a man's foot on Sunday, police told BuzzFeed News.

Two of the young man's friends told police they saw him step on a rock, triggering an explosion.
The friends told witnesses and police that they were not carrying any fireworks or explosives, NY Daily News reported, but that it appeared the man had stepped on one discarded by someone else.

"His foot was all but gone," John Murphey, 53, said.
The man's friends said he is from northern Virginia and was visiting New York City for the holiday weekend.
