A lawsuit accuses Gordon, Brown’s boyfriend, of assaulting her and stealing thousands of dollars from her after she became comatose. The lawsuit seeks at least $10 million.
The suit was filed by Brown's court-appointed conservator and attorney Bedelia Hargrove with the superior court of Fulton County, Georgia, and demands a trial by jury.

The suit alleges that Gordon "committed domestic violence" against Brown regularly, "including punching her in the face, knocking out her tooth, and dragging her upstairs by her hair." The suit does not specify evidence for these accusations.
Brown had confided to an unnamed friend that Gordon "was not the man she thought he was" and had set up a time to discuss this further with the friend the day she was found unconscious, the suit claimed.
"On [that] morning," the suit reads, "Brown became embroiled in a loud argument with [Gordon] at her townhome. The loud argument ended and Brown was later found unresponsive and unconscious, face down in a bathtub, with her mouth swollen and another tooth knocked out."
Brown has since been diagnosed with "global and irreversible brain damage."
The lawsuit was filed and made public hours after it was announced that Brown was in a "deteriorating state" and moved to hospice care.
