Escaped New York Prisoner Reportedly Shot

One of the two convicts who made a daring, dramatic escape from a maximum security prison in New York earlier this month has been reportedly shot by law enforcement authorities, multiple media outlets are reporting.

David Sweat, 35, and Richard Matt, 48 are the subjects of a massive manhunt that has lasted for about three weeks and involved hundreds of state and federal law enforcement officials who criss-crossed two states as they chased down lead after lead.

For days, authorities have swarmed areas from Philadelphia to Vermont acting on tips and possible sightings, but had repeatedly come up empty-handed.

In recent days, authorities had focused more resources on the densely wooded area near Mountain View based on evidence recovered from a broken into hunting cabin. Based on what authorities found, they also reportedly believed that one of the men was barefoot.

Police used helicopters, grid searches, door-to-door checks and cleared empty buildings in between fielding tips from the public, nearly all of which yielded nothing.
