A Milwaukee police officer who fatally shot a black man in August has been arrested on sexual assault charges and suspended from the police department.
On August 13, 24-year-old officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown shot 23-year-old Sylville Smith in the Sherman Park neighborhood after Smith allegedly ran from police during a traffic stop. Police say that Smith turned and pointed a gun at Heagann-Brown before the officer fatally shot him.
The shooting sparked two nights of outrage and protest in the city, leading to the National Guard being called in to respond.

WISN has now learned that two days after the shooting, an alleged victim came forward accusing the officer of sexual assault. Following an investigation, charges were filed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday. Details of the alleged incident were not immediately available.
Heaggan-Brown was on-duty at the time of the alleged incident. He has been suspended from the police department.
Meanwhile, the public is still waiting to learn the result of District Attorney John Chisholm’s investigation into Smith’s death. The DA has been reviewing the case since September when the Wisconsin Department of Justice completed its report on the incident.
Since the Smith shooting, police and officials have maintained that video footage from the scene shows that the victim had a gun on him at the time he was shot. The media and public have called for officials to release the video but investigators have yet to make any of it public.
Earlier this week, more details connected to the Smith case came to light when search warrants for the car he fled from were released to the media.
FOX 6 reports that investigators found three flip phones inside the car and enough cocaine base and heroin to make the DA’s office think the drugs were for distribution. No charges have been filed yet in the drug case. A Green Bay man who was riding in the car with Smith was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting.

After the shooting, police said that Heagann-Brown received death threats when his identity was revealed and information about him started to spread on social media.
It was revealed that prior to joining the police Heagann-Brown was an aspiring rapper who sometimes rapped about tensions between police and inner-city communities. On one track, performing under the name KB Domo, Heagann-Brown raps, “I’m going to start a riot like it’s Baltimore.”
