The Man In Charge Of The US Forest Service Has Resigned After Reports Of Sexual Misconduct

USFS

The head of the US Forest Service has resigned following a news report detailing allegations of sexual misconduct and retaliation within the federal agency.

Chief Tony Tooke announced Wednesday that he was stepping down, PBS and other media reported. In an email announcing the resignation, Tooke said, "what is needed right now is for me to step down." He did not confirm allegations of sexual misconduct, writing instead, "I cannot combat every inaccuracy that is reported in the news media."

A PBS investigation last week cited interviews with 34 current and former Forest Service employees, who described a work environment hostile to female employees.

The Forest Service did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' request for comment Wednesday.
