As of July 27, there were 1,323 documented cases of Ebola in west Africa, including 729 deaths. That makes it roughly as deadly as the SARS outbreak that happened 10 years ago. It's probably worth noting, however, that the SARS victims were spread out over five different continents while Ebola is so far limited to four west African nations.
Ebola also has killed more people than dengue did in Pakistan in 2011. However, Cholera outbreaks in Zimbabwe in 2008 and Haiti in 2010 remain far more deadly than the current Ebola epidemic.
