The FBI is investigating a fire that badly burned a historical black church in Mississippi Tuesday that was also vandalized with graffiti reading "Vote Trump."
“The FBI Jackson Division is aware of the situation in Greenville, and we are working with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to determine if any civil rights crimes were committed,” FBI spokesman Brett Carr said in a statement provided to BuzzFeed News.
Authorities believe the fire at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Greenville was set around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, NBC News reports.
The Delta Daily News reported that most of the damage was done to the main sanctuary of the historical church.
Greenville Fire Chief Ruben Brown Sr. told Reuters that nobody was hurt.
The FBI is being assisted by the ATF and the U.S. Marshals in the investigation.
