Shooting Breaks Out At Ferguson Protest On Michael Brown Anniversary

Multiple gunshots were fired Sunday night in Ferguson, Missouri, where protesters had gathered on the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.

A police officer was involved in a shooting Sunday night in Ferguson, Missouri, where protesters had gathered on the one year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.

According to St. Louis County Police, the officer came under "heavy gunfire" before returning fire. At least two unmarked cars were hit by gunfire, the department said.

The gunshots rang out around 11:15 p.m., after protesters were told to clear the area of Ferguson and West Florissant Ave.

Hundreds had gathered in Ferguson on Sunday to mark one year since Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was killed by a white police officer — a death that prompted angry protests, as well as reflection on policing in the black community.

At least one person seen on the ground after the gunshots were fired appeared to be injured. A person at the scene could be heard screaming "they killed my brother," and a woman nearby fainted, the Associated Press reported.
