Officer Sean Hickman of the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to BuzzFeed News an officer opened fire at a woman. Details about the shooting, or why officers were called to the area, were not immediately known, he said. The woman's condition also was not immediately known.
According to NBC Washington, the shooting happened as crews responded to a fire in the east part of the city. Police told reports on scene that the officer fired after the woman ignored commands to drop the knife.
