The exchange takes place just after the 10 minute mark in the video.

The Taliban released video early Wednesday showing its fighters handing over Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl to U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan after five years of holding the soldier captive.

Bergdahl was held prisoner by the Taliban since June 2009 until the exchange on Saturday in eastern Afghanistan.

In the video, Taliban fighters are seen perched with RPGs on a hillside guarding the captive Bergdahl, who was brought to the exchange site in a truck, as a single Black Hawk helicopter approaches the area.

As the helicopter lands and ununiformed U.S. forces emerge, Taliban fighters, under a white flag, hand over the prisoner. Bergdahl is seen carrying what appears to be a plastic bag as U.S. forces shake hands with his Taliban captors and escort him to safety on the helicopter.

On Sunday, Bergdahl was moved from Afghanistan to a medical facility in Germany, where he will stay until he is well enough to return home.

According to U.S. government officials, Sgt. Bergdahl was the only remaining American soldier captured in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. His release was part of a negotiation that included the release of five Taliban detainees who were held at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Republicans and others in the U.S. have criticized the move, saying it sets a bad precedent for the exchange of prisoners of war in the future.
