Reports in the Indian media suggest that 15 of the 150 are feared dead after a hillside collapsed in the village, which is located 120km (75 miles) north of Pune in Ambegoan, Maharashtra province.

Speaking to the Associated Press, senior local official Prabhakar Deshmukh said that rescue efforts were being hampered by heavy rains and poor transport links in the area.


Maharashtra state district administrator Suresh Jadhav said: "There are reports that up to 30 to 40 houses have been affected", and added that around 40 ambulances and 200 volunteers had been sent to the scene to help with the rescue effort, CNN reports.
