The doctor and “national hero” leading the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone has contracted the deadly virus, according to a statement from the country’s president.

It is the world's deadliest outbreak of the virus yet. There is currently no cure for Ebola. The disease kills up to 90% of those infected, with those receiving early treatment having a greater chance of survival. The virus spreads through contact with an infected person's bodily fluids.
