Northumbria police are appealing for information after a masked robber attacked a Sunderland shopkeeper with a machete.
The incident happened at the Max & Sons store in Eden Vale just after 6am on Saturday.

The police have released CCTV footage of the attack that shows the brave shopkeeper fighting off the would-be robber with a metal pole.
The staff member has been named as 63-year-old Muhammed Maqsood.

He is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "He was telling me ‘give me the money, give me the money’ and he showed me the big knife, which was 3 feet long."
